Sport
At Goldthorpe Primary Academy, we offer a strong Physical Education Curriculum which is enhanced by lots of wider opportunities to develop our children in other ways. Our sports teams are established and within these, children develop discipline, self-motivation and resilience: this permeates all other areas of their own personal development and creates respectful, kind and courageous individuals. We invite role models into school to speak to children about their own experiences as well as providing opportunities to explore other areas of sport that take part outside of their usual hobbies.
Boys’ Football Team
Our Boys’ Football Team train every Monday and play in tournaments and fixtures around the region. Most recently, they have qualified in the Totty Cup for the Barlow-Salmons Shield. They display courage each game and treat their teammates and opposition with respect and kindness.
Keep a look our for our latest fixtures and results!
Girls’ Football Team
Similarly to the boys, our Girls’ Football Team also take part in the Totty Cup – a regional tournament. They train regularly and play at local venues where they too show our school values each and every time!
Sports Tournaments and Other Opportunities
As well as encouraging our football teams, we have a Key Stage 2 Girls’ Netball Team who have competed successfully in local fixtures and we strive to take a wide range of our pupils to experience wider sports such as Boccia and Rounders tournaments at local secondary schools. In addition to these events, our extra-curricular sports offer includes clubs such as Multi-Skills, Gymnastics, Basketball and Dance in order to broaden childrens’ experiences in the sporting world.
Visitors in School
Ed Clancy OBE visited Goldthorpe Primary Academy to help us promote Active Travel in the community! He brought along his own cycling gear (as well as enough for everybody else) and spoke with pupils about how to cycle safely in addition to chatting about how resilience and perseverance contributed to his successes.
We have also welcomed Rugby League player Pauli Pauli and Doncaster Rovers footballer Jack Shepherd who gave children taster sessions of their own sports and spoke to to children about their personal journeys into their professional careers.
